The MILE has established a school music program in Tierra Santa, working in conjunction with local officials and educators to shape a program that is inclusive of indigenous culture and methods of instruction.
our initiative
Our music education program was established in 2022 in Tierra Santa, a village on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. Since then, we have given our students unprecedented access to instruments and opportunity in music education.
the OPPORTUNITY
Before we intervened, the children had little to no access to musical instruments or education. That has fortunately changed; however, we currently have room for only 30 students in the program each semester. There is plenty of opportunity for growth: each of the 6 neighboring villages have requested The MILE's music program for their children.
